This gorgeous village house is a delight to discover with many interesting nooks and cranies both inside and out – be warned, its charm and character will enchant you! You will find plenty of large, bright, comfortable living spaces, sunny terraces and leafy garden areas from where you can relax and enjoy the perfect Cote d’Azur holiday. A panoramic sea view stretches out before you taking in the Cap d’Antibes and welcoming sunshine most of the day.

This historic home is accessed from a quiet, little street close to everything in lovely Haut de Cagnes. The entrance hall was originally an old village lane way connecting several dwelling, it is now incorporated into the house along with an old well – just one of the many fascinating features this property has to offer.

La Cachette is quite unique with approximately 300m2 of living space, divided onto 4 different level, although with its half floors and mezzanines you could be led to believe there are more. The house is tiled throughout with rugs strategically placed for the perfect dash of colour. There is plenty of art in the form of paintings and sculpture, antique furniture and a subtle oriental influence mingles perfectly with the Cote d’Azur ambiance making this home very special indeed.

Starting at the bottom, the garden stretches along the entire length of the house and more, it is a pretty and natural environment with a large variety of trees such as orange and lemon, brightly coloured corners and overflowing pots. Divided into 3 tiered terraced, the first is tucked away and is encircled by trees and shrubs, ideal for those seeking shade in the heat of the day – there is a table and chairs. The second is set further back, it has a round table with chairs and direct access to the dining room through French doors. The last terrace stretches along the living room and has an orange tree in the middle plus a large dining table for 6, which enjoys a wonderful, open south-west facing sea view. There is a parasol available for protection during a summer’s lunch. There is a bench built into the low stone wall running along the terrace from where you can take in the views and sun loungers are there for those wishing to soak up the sunshine.

From here you have access to the sitting room through a glass door. This room maximizes light and space with its three quarter length windows making up one and a half of its walls. There is a wood burning stove, a comfy armchair and sofa and an eclectic mix of bits and pieces which keep you engaged. The ceilings are slanted with wooden beams and there is an exposed stone wall which makes a charming contrast. For those interested in home entertainment a DVD player and good sized DVD library, a large flat screen television and Bose stereo and music system are available.

The house has WiFi connection.

Shallow stairs running along the side of the sitting room take you up to the 15th Century dining room with fireplace, piano, mezzanine and access to the garden terrace. This room makes an ideal spot for hosting a dinner party.

A fully equipped, brand new kitchen with oven, dishwasher, large fridge freezer, microwave, coffee machine, toaster and plenty of kitchen utensils and crockery is conveniently located close by.

From the dining room, if you take the small ‘lane way’ towards the front door, half way up is the corridor to the mezzanine level. Firstly you will come to a powder room with w.c, bidet, wash hand basin and an opening into the walls of the old well – another curious feature in this much loved home. Next is the wine cellar, utility room (with washing machine and dryer) and an office with desk and book cases filled with books. From here you can access the mezzanine overlooking the dining room, which has an additional desk and comfy sofa, where you can curl up with a good book. A small terrace with south west facing sea view can be found at the far end of the mezzanine.

Continuing the ascent and passing the front door, you will come to a wrought iron staircase which curls up through the centre of the house. Pausing briefly on a landing where you can leave your hat and coat, before continuing up to the top level. At one end of the fourth floor stands the master bedroom with its impressive boat-style, queen sized (160 x 190), wicker bed. There is a closed fireplace and 2 large windows overlooking the rooftop towards Cap d’Antibes. Across the corridor is a bathroom with walk in shower, w.c., wash hand basin and soft cream wall and floor tiles.

The second bathroom is next door and is of a similar style except this has a bath tub and serves the other 2 bedrooms, which lie at the opposite end of the landing.

One bedroom is rich in colour with golden brown trimmings – there is a queen sized bed (160 x 190), a fireplace and 2 large windows opening onto the front of the house.

The last bedroom is simple and fresh with one window and a double bed (140 x 190) and bedside tables.

There is a double inflatable mattress which can be set up in the office for those requiring extra bedding and a single camp bed is also available.

Most rooms have fans provided for the summer months, but the walls in these medieval homes are thick and keep them cool during July and August.

La Cachette makes a wonderful place to spend your holidays, it is the perfect French ‘hideaway’ – offering plenty of private corners, as well as perfect spaces where you and your friends and family can share special memories that will keep bringing you back again and again. The house is large and does have stairs as you will see in the photos, as well as a terrace with a drop the other side of the garden wall – plant pots have been strategically placed as a protection for small children but people with toddlers should be aware of this as they will be responsible for their children’s welfare.

The free shuttle bus, which runs from the town to the village every 15 minutes, has a bus stop very close to the house – you can also drop your luggage off there if driving. Private parking is very rare in the medieval village but free street parking and the paying village and town car parks are usually within a 2-7 minute walk away – you also have the option to jump on the free shuttle bus close to both car parks.

Restaurants and cafes are a 5 minute walk away, as is the town below with its food market, supermarket, bakeries, chemist, bank and selection of shops. The town is well services with buses going to most places on the Cote d’Azur, plus there is a train station. The sea is a 25-30 minute walk and a free beach bus is provided from the town in July and August.
